RD&E Grinder

Department: Research, Development & Engineering
Location: Milford, CT

Responsible for supporting R&D development and production thermoforming machines as needed: collects and grinds all the scrap plastic for recycling, assist or fill in for packers, utility and others as needed.



  •  Must pass powered industrial truck (forklift, Walkie Reach powered lift) training and certification including a skills evaluation
  •  Must be able to safely lift and remove rewind from the thermoforming machines and place them in the proper bins (see physical demands below)
  • Prepares sufficient supply of clean gaylords with bags inserted
  • Correctly segregates and identifies different material waste streams such as PET (prime/DPET versus regrind/RPET), Polypropylene, or other plastics
  • Correctly segregates other different material waste streams for recycling or disposal (carboard, paper, plastic wrap, etc.)
  • Feeds grinder at the right pace (depending on type of scrap) to prevent jams or other malfunctions due to improper handling
  • Understands and complies with lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures
  • Able to clean any and all portions of the grinder when properly Locked/Tagged/De-energized and knows the proper operation and cleaning of the Torit dust collectors
  • Properly cover, shrink-wrap and label filled gaylords after grinding includes measuring tare weight, gross weight, and net weight using a scale
  • Push and pull gaylords on rolling dollies to the proper area for collection of rewind, regrind, and scrap then back to the grinder for grinding (see physical demands below)
  • Operate a powered industrial truck (forklift, Walkie Reach powered lift) to load filled gaylords onto a transport trailer or to move gaylords around the shop floor
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-swept work area for safety and efficiency


  • Assembles and stacks the proper number of parts to each bag, and the proper packing order and orientation of bags and partitions into cartons per written instructions
  • Feeds packed cartons through a case taper or manually tapes cartons carefully
  • Prepares labels correctly by hand or using a printer for cartons with the date code, SKU, and other important information
  • Affixes the labels to carton in the correct location on the case ensuring consistency and legibility
  • If an ink stamp must be used, ensures the stamp is placed in the correct location and is legible prior to stacking on pallet
  • Properly stacks full cartons on pallet to specified heights per written instructions
  • Checks and verifies that all cases on the skid have the same label & product/SKU
  • Moves full skids out of the packing area using a pallet jack or powered industrial truck
  • Replaces empty pallets as needed and supplies correct size pallet for according to a written product specification
  • Moves corrugated material to area for assembly in a timely manner
  • Loads waiting transport trailers with wrapped/completed product using a powered industrial truck (forklift, Walkie Reach powered lift)
  • Properly loads and operates a pallet stretch wrap machine
