Operational Excellence Manager

Department: OpEx and Customer Exp
Location: Shelton, CT

This role plays an integral role in tactically leading organizational change in the pursuit of organizational excellence.  The incumbent will execute the Lean Six Sigma strategy from training, communication, strategic alignment, leadership, mentorship, and measurement.  The incumbent will be accountable for the process which identifies key opportunities and gaps in the core business processes, ensuring alignment of proper resources, developing appropriate charters, and training/mentoring candidates on proven methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.  OpEx is quickly building momentum at Inline Plastics, so this an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself.

Essential Function/Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Director to refine and execute the OpEx strategy (Playbook)
  • Drive the Lean Six Sigma transformation at the tactical level as the dedicated hands-on Continuous Improvement subject matter expert introducing Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and tools deep into the various functions of the organization
  • Foster an environment which enables people to connect OpEx thinking with Company standards of Quality, Service, Safety, Performance, Innovation and Teamwork
  • Partner with business stakeholders to install organizational supports for OpEx (project identification, reviews, communications, rewards, personnel, etc.)
  • Manage content and deliver OpEx training across the organization both Transactional and Manufacturing processes; specifically to refine and deliver RCA, Yellow Belt, Champion and higher level OpEx training (DFSS, Black and Green Belt)
  • Assist Director of OpEx in leading and managing LSS project portfolios in order to accomplish measurable business improvement
  • Champion the process of selecting, scoping and prioritizing Lean Six Sigma (LSS) projects across the business (ensure Project Hoppers are updated and aligned)
  • Mentor Black and Green Belt candidates to ensure projects achieve desired results and Black & Green Belts achieve certification. Coach and develop process improvement team members on Lean Six Sigma applications and on the use of applicable quality tools.
  • Ensure monthly Cost Savings are accounted for and accurate (collaborating with OpEx Financial Analyst) through the deployment  project tracking dashboard showing status, metrics, and results of OpEx projects
  • Lead by example as an active change agent by managing complex projects and/or Kaizen’s with cross functional teams that deliver sustained improvement to critical manufacturing and transactional processes to help management achieve strategic goals and impact financial results
  • Support Quality and OpEx team in implementing MSAs, SPC, FMEAs, and HOQs/QFDs.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours and support various manufacturing locations
  • Must be able to interact and build relationships with various departments
  • Participate in or lead annual OpEx and Quality forums
  • Maintain the function budget

Education and/or Experience - BS degree or equivalent degree in Business Management, Engineering, or other related field of study.  MBA, MS or other technical graduate degree preferred.  5+ years of demonstrated solid history in OpEx or continuous improvement.  Six Sigma / Lean Black Belt certification is required, with MBB as a preference.  Good working knowledge of software programs – Minitab, Microsoft Office 365, and TRACtion® Software.

Skills / Competencies - Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to proactively take initiative and complete tasks in a timely manner.  Can effectively lead Change Management efforts.  Excellent oral/written communication skills.  Good problem solving skills, analytical and statistical problem solving tools.  Strong teamwork and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work well with both technical and non-technical personnel, and influence the direction of projects.  Broad business knowledge and ability to link customer needs with business processes.  Ability to work independently and with all levels of managers, associates, and clients.  Strong analytical and statistical problem solving tools.  Strong coaching and facilitation skills.  Self-starter and the ability to plan and organize workload under minimum supervision.  Solid past performance as a Project Manager
