Automation Assembly Technician

Department: Automation
Location: Milford, CT

Summary

Fabricates, tests, analyzes, and adjusts machinery such as conveyors, labeling machines, and production machinery according to blueprints, and other specifications by performing the following duties.


Essential Function/Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assembles mechanical components with the use of mechanics hand tools and blue prints.
  • Operates metal working machines such as drill presses, bench top grinding wheels, and hand type pneumatic die grinders to fabricate or modify machinery components.
  • Assembles/installs electrical components such as motors, motor controllers, motor starter/contractors, photo eyes, timers, switches, control transformers, wire harnesses, junction boxes into machinery.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Tests electrical installations for continuity, proper grounding and function as related to machines performance.
  • Prepares, sets up machinery for shipment to the customer.
  • Trouble shoots electrical anomalies on machinery and makes appropriate repairs (example: timers, motor controllers, photo eyes, motor starters and contractors).

 Performs quality assurance functions on machined parts and electrical/mechanical assemblies including the following: 

  • Verifies dimensional accuracy of machined and sheet metal parts to engineering blueprints. Use of micrometer and calipers is required as well as understanding dimensional tolerances.
  • Occasional local and out-of-state travel to a customerís facility for the purpose of machinery installation, employee training and machinery repair.
  • Assist engineering and sales department at trade shows for assembly of the show booth and contract labor.

  1. Education and/or Experience - High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or technical school required.  Electrical experience a plus.
  2. Language Skills - Must be able to communicate on a one-on-one basis or in group situations, understand instructions and follow SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures).
  3. Mathematical Skills - Requires basic math skills along with Geometry or higher.
  4. Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of situations.

  1. While performing this job, the employee may stand or walk around.
  2. Physical activities include bending, pushing, kneeling and squatting, as well as manual dexterity tasks. 
  3. May be required to move up to 80 lbs. 
  4. On occasion, may be required to climb a ladder.
  5. Occasional fine motor tasks are required when working on the machinery.
  6. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
