Tooling Configuration Analyst

Summary:

The candidate will be responsible for correcting and maintaining design documentation for production tooling. This includes the maintenance of bills-of-materials, incorporation of Engineering Change Orders, revising assembly models and drawings, eliminating redundant information and archiving obsolete design files.

Duties also include correcting or updating design documentation to reflect the as-built configuration of the tool.

Participation will be required with the implementation of a Product Data Management solution.

Essential Function/Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and correct production tooling documentation and ensure its file structure follows the guidelines defined in the Tool Design File Management Structure SOP and that information is properly stored in each folder.
  • Delete any reductant administrative or design documents.
  • Incorporate Engineering Change Orders by modifying part models, subassembly models and insert them into the assembly model of the tool.
  • Revise 2D drawings affected by ECO’s and ensure they are connected / associative with their solid models.
  • Update Bills-of-Materials affected by changes.
  • Archive previous designs that have been revised by Engineering Change Orders.
  • Participate in the implementation of Product Data Management software / system.
  • Formulate and incorporate ECO’s for undocumented design changes.
  • Visit Inline’s manufacturing Plants to reconcile tooling documentation to the as-built configuration of the tool.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required knowledge and skills

  • Skilled in 3D solid modeling software; preferably Solidworks.
  • Knowledgeable in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • An understanding of design configuration management of mechanical assemblies.
  • A good mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with mechanics hand tools if necessary.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing environment involving plastic processes is beneficial.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, flexible environment.

Education and/or Experience - Two year degree from a college or university with 2-4 years mechanical design experience and working with detailed assemblies. Or a one year degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) Technology with 3-5 years of mechanical design experience working with detailed assemblies.

Candidates with injection molding or thermoforming tool design or plastics industry experience is beneficial. Tool making or machine shop experience is beneficial.
